"My goals are to prepare our students to be active and responsible 21st century learners, to engage students in the research process, and most importantly, to foster a love and appreciation of reading in every student."
Students will visit the library once a week. Each week students will select books to read both for pleasure, and for special projects. Students are instructed on information literacy, research skills, and literacture appreciation.
During library instruction, we aim:
1. To build our students awareness as to who they are as a reader, and develop them into sophisticated readers that know what they like to read, where to and how to find those books, and understand and know the topics that they are interested in.
2. To foster a love and appreciation of books and reading.
3. To continue to prepare our students to be active and responsible 21st Century learners, through integration of technology and Web 2.0 resources.
These goals will be achieved through a variety of instructional strategies, project and student centered learning, and collaboration with classroom teachers.

Library Media Specialist- Corisa Walker
My name is Mrs. Walker and I am very excited to be the Library Media Specialist at Brookdale and F.N. Brown. I am a graduate of the University of Rhode Island, with a degree in Elementary Education and Sociology, and have my Master's Degree in Education with School Library Certification from William Paterson University. I have been teaching since 2000, where I started my career with the Paterson Public Schools. I spent the 12 years there as a 4th and 5th grade teacher, a Library Media Specialist, and an Instructional Coach. I have always loved to read, and was lucky enough to have my reading interests nurtured by both my parents, and my educators. It was my love for reading, and my strong desire to expose students to the wonderful world of books that guided me to become a School Librarian. I am a Verona resident, as well as a Brookdale parent to two girls, Adelyn and Elenora.
